India-Canada Diplomatic Ties Strengthen

India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, marking their fifth meeting since September 2025. They discussed deepening cooperation in energy, technology, and trade, and emphasized strengthening ties through a joint roadmap announced in October 2025. This engagement follows a period of strained relations after Justin Trudeau's 2023 allegations regarding a potential Indian link to the killing of Hardeep Singh Puri, which led to diplomatic expulsions. The recent victory of Liberal Party leader Mark Carney in Canada's parliamentary election has helped reset relations, with Mark Carney expected to visit India in March to sign agreements on uranium, energy, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence. Both nations have since posted their high commissioners, signaling a commitment to constructive engagement and diversifying trade.
