Vicki Purdey's Meningitis and FND Diagnosis

Vicki Purdey, a 37-year-old mother, initially experienced flu-like symptoms in March 2024, which rapidly worsened. She was admitted to Poole Hospital on April 1, 2024, where she was diagnosed with viral meningitis. After a brief discharge, she was readmitted on April 15 with recurrent meningitis, at which point she had lost the ability to walk. Doctors subsequently diagnosed her with functional neurological disorder (FND), triggered by the meningitis, which disrupted her brain signals and caused significant loss of leg function. Two years later, Vicki Purdey remains reliant on a wheelchair, suffers from brain fog, and frequent eye spasms. She is undergoing physiotherapy and receives Botox treatment from the United Kingdom — National Health Service. Meningitis Now provided an electric wheelchair to assist her mobility. Vicki Purdey aims to raise awareness for FND and the need for more research and resources.
