Priya Kapur Defamation Suit vs Mandhira Kapur Smith

Priya Kapur, wife of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, has filed a civil defamation suit against her sister-in-law, Mandhira Kapur Smith, and podcast host Pooja Chaudhri. Priya Kapur alleges that Mandhira Kapur Smith embarked on a systematic and organized campaign to malign and socially discredit her through podcasts, interviews, and social media posts following Sunjay Kapur's death. The alleged defamatory statements falsely accuse Priya Kapur of dishonesty, moral impropriety, professional incompetence, concealment of assets, and illegitimate assumption of corporate control. The India — Delhi High Court has directed both Priya Kapur and Mandhira Kapur Smith to refrain from making public statements against each other and issued summons to Mandhira Kapur Smith and Pooja Chaudhri. Priya Kapur is seeking Rs 20 crore in damages, a permanent injunction against further defamatory content, removal of existing material, and an unconditional public apology. Separately, Priya Kapur has also filed a criminal defamation case against Mandhira Kapur Smith. The broader legal battle also includes Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Mukerji, seeking the dissolution of the RK Family Trust, and Karisma Kapoor's children seeking a share in Sunjay Kapur's estate.
