Andrew Shephard, a 59-year-old man, was sentenced to a suspended 17-week imprisonment for throwing his daughter's three pet kittens into the River Thames from Twickenham Bridge in November. He pleaded guilty to three counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. Witnesses heard him shouting 'let them die' and 'I want them to die'. Shephard told police he was 'very drunk at the time' and felt remorse. Two of the kittens were rescued alive, while one was saved before falling into the water. The kittens have since found new homes.
