The Nigeria — Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has inaugurated the Gravimetric Multifaceted Flow Metering Calibration Facility in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, developed by Engineering Automation Technology Limited (EATL). This project, the first of its kind in West Africa, aims to address long-standing challenges of inaccurate crude oil measurement, which have led to disputes, revenue leakages, and reliance on overseas calibration services. The facility features zero-touch automation, tamper-proof audit trails, and high-precision gravimetric standards, designed to eliminate human error and minimize downtime. It can calibrate various types of meters used in crude oil flow, improving operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and production optimization. This initiative is expected to curb revenue losses for Nigeria, strengthen its reserves management, free up public funds, and position the country as a regional hub for metering excellence. The project also supports Nigeria's local content drive, creating jobs and deepening domestic technical expertise.
