The report by S&P Global — CRISIL Ratings indicates a positive outlook for the Indian automotive sector, particularly the two-wheeler segment, driven by domestic demand and exports. This forecast suggests potential revenue growth and stable operating margins for original equipment manufacturers, making the industry attractive to investors.
S&P Global — CRISIL Ratings has released a report forecasting a 7-9% growth for India's two-wheeler industry in fiscal 2027, with volumes projected to reach 29 million units. The growth is primarily attributed to the domestic market, supported by improved affordability following the Goods and Services Tax (India) rate rationalisation. Exports are also expected to outpace domestic growth for the third consecutive year. The report highlights a shift towards premiumisation, with increasing demand for higher-capacity motorcycles. Despite elevated commodity costs, companies are expected to maintain operating margins due to higher sales volumes. A proposed trade agreement between India and United States could offer limited opportunities in the premium motorcycle segment. The industry's strong profitability is anticipated to fund capital expenditure of around ₹6,000 crore in fiscal 2027.
