Kaduna State Electrification Drive Launched

Governor Uba Sani of Nigeria — Kaduna State has launched Phase One of an extensive electrification program, distributing 600 transformers and deploying 10,000 solar-powered streetlights across the state's 23 local government areas. The initiative aims to boost economic activities, strengthen small and medium enterprises, and ensure access to energy for all communities, not just urban centers. The administration has completed previously stalled power projects, including solar mini-grid installations in 190 Primary Health Care Centres and the restoration of 32 abandoned systems. A significant achievement is the completion of the 2x60MVA, 132/33kV Substation at the Green Economic Zone in Maraban Jos, which is expected to act as an industrial catalyst. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Nigeria — Rural Electrification Agency to advance projects for Kaduna Polytechnic (1.5 megawatts) and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (8 megawatts), along with other urban and distributed generation projects.
