Rishi Sunak on India's AI Leadership

Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke at the AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi, emphasizing India's strong position to lead in Artificial Intelligence due to its deep talent pool, robust digital public infrastructure, and public optimism. He contrasted this with the anxiety felt in Western nations regarding AI's impact on jobs. Sunak also reflected on the AI Safety Summit held in the United Kingdom in November 2023, which led to the creation of AI security institutes. He stressed that AI should be a central government responsibility and that public sector adoption is crucial for building trust. India's ranking as third in AI competitiveness by Stanford University's Global AI Vibrancy 2025 report was also noted.
