Apple iPhone Manufacturing in Pakistan

Apple Inc. is set to begin manufacturing and refurbishing iPhones in Pakistan, following an agreement with the Pakistan government. Pakistan has offered incentives under a new Mobile and Electronics Manufacturing Framework, including discounted land rates and an 8% performance incentive, to attract Apple Inc. and other global manufacturers. The initiative aims to establish Pakistan as a regional hub for mobile and electronics exports, with an expected $100 million revenue from refurbished iPhones in the first year. The Peak and Hills Engineering & Development Ltd, led by Hamad Ali Mansoor, has been central to this policy, which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to approve. The policy also anticipates $557 million in investments from Chinese companies and aims to increase the localization of mobile phone parts to 35% in the first year and 50% subsequently. An export levy of up to 6% on high-priced phones will fund technology investment.
