The interim trade agreement between India and the United States is expected to boost trade relations and provide duty concessions, positively impacting businesses involved in bilateral trade. The reduction of tariffs by the United States on Indian goods will likely increase the competitiveness of Indian exports.
An interim trade agreement between India and the United States is expected to be signed in March and operationalized in April. This follows a joint statement earlier this month announcing the finalization of a framework for the deal. Officials from India, led by chief negotiator Darpan Jain, and the United States will meet from February 23 to finalize the legal text. The United States has already reduced reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods from 25% to 18% and eliminated punitive tariffs on India for buying Russian crude oil. Additionally, India's free trade agreements with the United Kingdom and Oman are likely to be implemented in April, and a pact with New Zealand is expected in September.
