Microsoft launches AI education in India

Microsoft has launched its 'Elevate for Educators' program in India, the first country in Asia to receive this initiative. The program aims to skill two million teachers and reach 200,000 schools and educational institutions by 2030, as part of Microsoft's broader commitment to equip 20 million people in India with AI skills. This initiative aligns with India's National Education Policy 2020, which mandates the integration of AI and Computational Thinking into the school curriculum from Grade 3 onwards. Brad Smith (lawyer), Vice Chair and President of Microsoft, and Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, emphasized the importance of responsible AI adoption and skilling educators as architects of India's AI future. The program is being delivered in partnership with key Indian government agencies including the India — Central Board of Secondary Education, India — National Council of Educational Research and Training, India — All India Council for Technical Education, India — National Council of Educational Research and Training, and the India — Directorate General of Training, aiming to expand AI opportunities for eight million students.
