The Nigeria — Rural Electrification Agency (REA) of Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ECOWAS (ECOWAS) Commission, securing a $700,000 grant. This funding, under the World Bank Group-supported Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), will facilitate the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in 15 public health and education facilities across the Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria — Niger State, and Nasarawa State in Nigeria. The agreement marks the formal commencement of Nigeria's pilot implementation phase under ROGEAP, aiming to expand off-grid electricity access across West Africa and the Sahel. Nigeria — Rural Electrification Agency will serve as the technical and financial implementing agency. Additionally, Nigeria — Rural Electrification Agency signed a separate MoU with the Nigeria — Niger State Government to ensure state-level collaboration, co-financing, and monitoring of the project sites. This dual-level partnership is expected to improve energy reliability in rural public facilities, reduce dependence on diesel generators, lower operating costs, and promote clean energy adoption in line with Nigeria's national energy policies.
