Police Officer Drank On Duty

Former detective constable Sean Brierley of the United Kingdom — Metropolitan Police was found to have committed gross misconduct after drinking three glasses of white wine at Gravity Well Taproom while on duty on July 2, 2025. He became so intoxicated that he was unable to walk straight upon returning to Leyton police station. A misconduct panel, chaired by Commander Katie Lilburn, determined that Sean Brierley's actions were intentional and dangerous, especially given his role in a police station and custody suite. Although Sean Brierley had already resigned from the United Kingdom — Metropolitan Police, the panel concluded that he would have been dismissed had he still been a member of the force. His colleagues had arranged a welfare check at his home due to their concerns about his condition.
