Nine Cheetahs Arrive Kuno National Park

Nine cheetahs from Botswana were airlifted to India — Kuno National Park in India, increasing the country's total cheetah count to 48. This marks the third batch of cheetahs introduced as part of India's four-year Project Cheetah, aimed at reviving the species after its extinction nearly seven decades ago. The India — Indian Air Force facilitated the transport, with Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Devender Yadav and Project Cheetah Director Uttam Sharma overseeing the release into quarantine enclosures. Three cheetahs have also been relocated to India — Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary to prevent disease outbreaks, while 36 remain at India — Kuno National Park. The program has seen the birth of 39 cubs since 2023, with 27 surviving.
