Girl Dies After School Bullying

A 12-year-old girl, Khimberly Zavaleta, died after being struck in the head with a metal water bottle during an alleged bullying incident at Reseda Charter High School on February 17. Khimberly Zavaleta was reportedly defending her sister when the incident occurred. Days later, she suffered a catastrophic medical emergency, underwent emergency brain surgery at UCLA Mattel Children s Hospital, and died on February 25. The United States — Los Angeles Police Department has launched a homicide investigation into her death. The United States — Los Angeles Unified School District expressed deep sadness and is cooperating with the investigation, while also providing support services. Khimberly Zavaleta's mother, Elma Chuquipa, expressed her pain and called for justice. A GoFundMe page was set up by the family to cover medical and funeral expenses. Students, led by Dayari Diaz, protested at Reseda Charter High School, voicing concerns about campus safety.
