Italy, led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, announced its intention to send air defense aid to Gulf countries. The aid, which includes anti-drone and anti-missile systems, aims to protect the tens of thousands of Italian citizens and approximately 2,000 Italian troops deployed in the region, as well as to secure vital energy supplies for Italy and Europe. Separately, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto stated that Italy, along with France, Spain, and the Netherlands, will send naval assets to defend Cyprus. Crosetto also ordered Italy's own air and missile defense network to be raised to its maximum protection level in coordination with NATO. Meloni clarified that US military bases in Italy currently have authorization only for 'non-bombing operations' and any change would require government and parliamentary consideration, with no such requests made to date.
