The ongoing investigation and searches by the India — Enforcement Directorate against Reliance Power and Anil Ambani are likely to negatively impact investor confidence in Reliance Power and other companies associated with Anil Ambani. The allegations of bank fraud against Bank of Baroda could also raise concerns about the financial health and governance of the involved entities.
The India — Enforcement Directorate conducted extensive searches at multiple locations in Mumbai and Hyderabad as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation against Reliance Power, a group company of businessman Anil Ambani. Approximately 10-12 locations linked to Reliance Power and its executives were searched by 15 teams. This action is part of a broader investigation into multiple companies linked to Anil Ambani concerning alleged bank fraud and financial irregularities under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Anil Ambani has been questioned twice previously, and his Mumbai residence, 'Abode', was provisionally attached last month. The India — Enforcement Directorate has also formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe cases against Anil Ambani's group companies, including allegations of cheating Bank of Baroda by Anil Ambani and Reliance Communications, resulting in a loss of over Rs 2,220 crore.
