Nigeria Airports Hybrid Payment System

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development in Nigeria, has directed the immediate implementation of a hybrid payment system at airport access gates nationwide, effective March 13, 2026. This decision follows an earlier directive from President Bola Tinubu to suspend a fully cashless payment system, which had caused significant traffic congestion at major airports. The new hybrid system will accommodate both cash and electronic payments, including card payments, POS terminals, and other digital channels. The Nigeria — Nigerian Ports Authority (FAAN) is encouraged to engage concessionaires to eventually introduce a fully automated electronic system, with the long-term goal of eliminating cash payments entirely. Motorists who possess FAAN Go Cashless Cards can continue to use them. This interim measure aims to restore smooth traffic flow and passenger convenience while the government works towards a more optimized and seamless electronic payment platform.
