This event highlights ongoing efforts by the India — Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) to combat illicit drug manufacturing, which can have a minor positive impact on the legitimate pharmaceutical and chemical industries by reducing illegal competition. The seizure of Alprazolam and related chemicals demonstrates a disruption to the black market supply chain.

The India — Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted 'Operation White Hammer' on March 11-12, 2026, busting a clandestine Alprazolam manufacturing facility in the Kondapalli Industrial Development Area of NTR district, India — Andhra Pradesh. The operation led to the seizure of 237 kg of Alprazolam, valued at Rs 47 crore, along with over 800 kg of raw materials, 2,860 litres of various chemicals, and industrial-scale equipment. The facility operated under the guise of a chemical manufacturing unit. Preliminary investigations revealed that a chemist with over 20 years of experience orchestrated the operation in collusion with an associate responsible for raw material procurement and distribution in India — Hyderabad. Both masterminds have been arrested. This bust is part of the India — Directorate of Revenue Intelligence's (DRI) broader commitment to the Indian government's 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan' (Drug-Free India Campaign), having dismantled eight such units in the current financial year.
