Former Labour MP Phil Woolas Dies

Phil Woolas, a former United Kingdom minister and MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, has died at the age of 66 after battling glioblastoma brain cancer. He served in the governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, holding various ministerial positions including whip, deputy leader of the Commons, local government minister, environment minister, and immigration minister. Before his parliamentary career, Phil Woolas was president of the National Union of Students, a TV producer, and communications director for the GMB. After leaving Parliament, he established his own political and risk consultancy and chaired The Ace Centre, an Oldham charity.
