Bobi Wine Flees Uganda

Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has temporarily left Uganda after two months in hiding following the January 15 presidential election. Bobi Wine disputes the outcome of the election, which saw incumbent President Yoweri Museveni re-elected for a seventh term, alleging widespread fraud, intimidation, and violence. He stated he left for 'critical engagements outside Uganda' and plans to engage international allies to advocate for sanctions against Yoweri Museveni's regime. Bobi Wine had been in hiding since fleeing his home in Kampala, fearing for his safety amid threats from Uganda's military chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also Yoweri Museveni's son. Security forces reportedly conducted raids and erected roadblocks in an attempt to locate him. Bobi Wine's deputy, Lina Zedriga, will lead the Uganda — National Unity Platform party in his absence. Critics, including some former allies, accuse Yoweri Museveni's government of a descent into authoritarianism, despite his supporters crediting him with bringing stability to Uganda.
