Denise Huskins kidnapping and police accusation

Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn were victims of a kidnapping and sexual assault in Vallejo, California, in 2015. Masked intruders broke into their home, drugged them, and abducted Denise, holding her for ransom. Aaron received ransom demands and was warned not to contact authorities. Despite this, the Vallejo Police Department became involved, but instead of investigating, they accused Huskins and Quinn of fabricating the entire ordeal, drawing comparisons to the movie 'Gone Girl'. Denise Huskins was released two days later near her family's home. The police publicly shamed the couple, claiming they had wasted valuable resources. Eventually, the actual perpetrator, Matthew Muller, was apprehended, convicted, and sentenced to 40 years in prison in 2017. In 2018, Huskins and Quinn received a $2.5 million settlement from the city of Vallejo, which apologized but disciplined none of the officers involved.
