The $496 million dairy investment by Nigeria — Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority and Asset Green Limited is expected to significantly boost Nigeria's agricultural sector, reducing its reliance on imported dairy products and creating thousands of jobs. This will positively impact the Nigerian economy and potentially attract further foreign investment into its food production industry.
The Nigeria — Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and UK-based Asset Green Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a $496 million integrated dairy livestock production and processing platform in Nigeria. This ambitious project aims to transform Nigeria's dairy industry, strengthen national food security, and reduce the country's reliance on imported milk powder. The initiative will combine 20,000 hectares of climate-smart crop and forage production with a modern 10,000-milking cow dairy operation and a state-of-the-art processing plant. The plant will produce fresh milk, milk powders, butter, cream, and up to 15,000 metric tonnes of infant formula annually. The project is expected to generate over $620 million annually and create 2,500 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs, while also integrating up to 10,000 rural households into the supply chain. British Deputy High Commissioner Johnny Baxter and NSIA Managing Director Aminu Umar-Sadiq highlighted the long-term economic cooperation between United Kingdom and Nigeria and the project's importance for Nigeria's food and nutrition security. Rod Bassett, Director at Asset Green Limited, emphasized the investment's role in unlocking Nigeria's agricultural potential.
