Storm Therese Batters Canary Islands

The Spain — Canary Islands, a popular holiday destination, have been hit by severe weather conditions due to Storm Therese, just days before the Easter break. Spain — Tenerife, Spain — El Hierro, Spain — La Palma, and Spain — La Gomera are under orange rain alerts, while Spain — Gran Canaria is under an amber warning. The storm has brought torrential rain, strong winds exceeding 74 mph, flash flooding, landslides, and unexpected snowfall in areas above 1,800-2,000 meters, particularly in Teide National Park on Spain — Tenerife. This has led to road closures, an emergency situation declaration by Spain — Tenerife president Rosa Dávila, and the suspension of outdoor activities. Travel has been significantly disrupted, with dozens of flights to the Spain — Canary Islands cancelled or diverted. Schools across the islands have also been closed. The adverse conditions are expected to persist for at least another five days, causing concern for holidaymakers and residents.
