The new policy by India could lead to improved operational efficiency and service quality, potentially boosting investor confidence in India's restructuring efforts under Tata Group. However, it may also lead to short-term disruptions if a significant number of cabin crew members are de-rostered.
India, under the ownership of Tata Group, is set to implement a new 'Cabin Crew Health and Fitness Compliance Policy' from May 1, 2026. This policy will link cabin crew members' work eligibility to their Body Mass Index (BMI) and functional fitness assessments. Crew members with a BMI outside the 'normal' range (18-24.9) may face consequences such as de-rostering and loss of pay. Specifically, those classified as 'obese' (BMI 30 or above) will be immediately de-rostered and placed on loss of pay until they meet the required standards. The policy aims to promote a healthy lifestyle among the crew and ensure they are in optimal physical health to deliver expected performance standards, as part of India's ongoing restructuring efforts.
