The launch of the seventh tranche of critical mineral auctions by India is expected to positively impact the mining and clean energy sectors by securing domestic supply chains. This move aims to reduce India's reliance on imports for essential minerals like Galan Lithium, Graphite, and Rare-earth element, which are crucial for advanced technologies and sustainable development.

Mining Renewable energy Technology

India is set to launch the seventh tranche of auctions for critical and strategic mineral blocks on March 23, offering 19 blocks across various states. This initiative, led by the India — Ministry of Mines and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, aims to bolster India's self-reliance in key sectors such as clean energy, advanced technologies, fertilisers, and defence. The demand for critical minerals like Galan Lithium, Graphite, Rare-earth element, Tungsten, Vanadium, and Titanium has surged globally, and their limited availability poses challenges to supply chains. India previously amended the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, in August 2023, identifying 24 minerals as critical and strategic. The government has already completed six rounds of auctions, awarding 46 blocks. Additionally, the India — Ministry of Mines will organize the National District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Summit 2026 to discuss the use of funds for development in mining-affected areas.
