The market is impacted by the ongoing legal challenge to the acquisition of Jaypee Group Limited by Adani Enterprises Limited. The outcome from the India — National Company Law Appellate Tribunal will determine the future ownership of significant assets across real estate, cement, and hospitality sectors, affecting the involved companies' valuations and potentially setting precedents for future insolvency proceedings in India.
Vedanta Limited has appealed to the India — National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) against the India — National Company Law Tribunal's (NCLT) approval of Adani Enterprises Limited's Rs 14,535 crore bid to acquire Jaypee Group Limited. Jaypee Group Limited entered corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) in June 2024 after defaulting on loans worth Rs 57,185 crore. Adani Enterprises Limited's bid was approved by the Committee of Creditors in November last year with 89% of votes, outbidding Vedanta Limited and Dalmia Bharat. The NCLT, Allahabad bench, orally pronounced its approval on March 17, 2026. Vedanta Limited's appeal challenges the fairness and compliance of the process, arguing that its offer had a longer payout schedule and a revised proposal was rejected after bidding closed. The NCLAT, led by Justice Ashok Bhushan and Barun Mitra, will now review the case, which involves substantial assets in real estate, cement, hospitality, power, and engineering.
