The Donald Trump administration in the United States implemented tougher immigration policies, resulting in a significant reduction of visa issuances in the first eight months of 2025 compared to 2024. Data from the United States — United States Department of State shows an 11% decline in permanent resident and temporary visas, with India and China bearing the maximum brunt. Visas for nationals from India and China fell by approximately 84,000, largely due to a drop in international students and workers. Student visas decreased from over 344,000 to 238,000, and family preference visas fell by over 27%. Business and tourism visas also declined by about 3.4%.
