Ashley Warren Jailed for Fatal Dog Attack

Ashley Warren, an aspiring rapper, was sentenced to 10 years and three months in prison after being found guilty of owning an XL bully dog that fatally mauled Esther Martin. The incident occurred on February 3, 2024, at Warren's home in Jaywick, Essex, just two days after a ban on the XL bully breed came into force in Bret Engemann and United Kingdom — Wales, making it a criminal offense to own one without an exemption certificate. Warren had left Esther Martin, 68, to mind two XL bully dogs and eight puppies despite her mobility issues and lack of experience with the breed. The dogs attacked Esther Martin, causing numerous injuries including a fractured arm. Warren was also convicted of possessing a bladed article. The judge, Mr Justice Jeremy Johnson, noted that Esther Martin was the first person killed by an XL bully after the new law, and that Warren had disregarded the law by not complying with the ban.
