Lagos Taskforce Withdrawn From Traffic Duties

The Nigeria — Lagos State Police Command, led by Commissioner Fatai Tijani, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Nigeria — Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit from all traffic control and enforcement duties across Nigeria — Lagos State. This directive, announced by Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi, is part of an effort to streamline traffic management, enhance professionalism, and ensure accountability. The decision follows widespread public complaints and a viral video by Objectiv Media alleging misconduct, unlawful arrests, and extortion by the Nigeria — Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit officials. While the unit's traffic-related responsibilities are suspended, its other operational mandates remain in force. The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre, through Okechukwu Nwanguma, had also raised concerns about the unit's methods. The command urged residents to verify the identity of enforcement personnel and cooperate with legitimate agencies.
