The Nigeria — Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced an ambitious revenue target of N1.489 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, surpassing its 2025 target. This projection is underpinned by major modernization projects planned for Nigeria — Port of Apapa and Nigeria — Tin Can Island Port, which are currently outdated and inadequate for modern shipping demands. Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of Nigeria — Nigerian Ports Authority, stated that groundbreaking for these projects will commence within two to three weeks. The modernization aims to enhance efficiency, expand capacity, and boost Nigeria's competitiveness in global trade. Funds allocated for 2026 include N945 billion for capital projects, N447.5 billion for operating expenses, and N90.6 billion for remittance to the Consolidated Revenue Fund. During the construction phase, some vessels will be temporarily diverted to eastern ports, which is expected to stimulate maritime activities across the country. The initiative has received support from legislative bodies, with Nnolim Nnaji and Wasiu Sanni emphasizing the importance of these upgrades for national development.
