Refugee Death Ruled Homicide in Buffalo

The death of Killing of Nurul Amin Shah Alam, a nearly blind refugee from Myanmar, has been ruled a homicide by the United States — Erie County Medical Examiner s Office. He was found dead on a Buffalo street five days after United States — United States Customs and Border Protection agents left him at a closed Restaurant Brands International — Tim Hortons restaurant. The cause of death was complications of a perforated duodenal ulcer, precipitated by hypothermia and dehydration. United States — Erie County, New York officials, including County Executive Mark Poloncarz, and United States — New York (state) Governor Kathy Hochul, have expressed concern and called for accountability. The United States — United States Department of Homeland Security, parent agency of United States — United States Customs and Border Protection, has denied responsibility, while the New York Immigration Coalition and Rohingya Empowerment Community are demanding a criminal investigation into the agents' conduct.
