Stephen Lewis, HIV-AIDS advocate, dies

Stephen Lewis, a prominent Canadian diplomat and social justice advocate, died on Tuesday at the age of 88. He is widely credited with raising Canadian public awareness of the HIV-AIDS pandemic in Africa and galvanizing political will to address it. Lewis served as the United Nations special envoy for HIV-AIDS in Africa from 2001 to 2006 and established the Stephen Lewis Foundation in 2003 to support affected communities. His work involved traveling to sub-Saharan Africa to understand the pandemic's impact and using his communication skills to share those stories.
