NextGen Nano West Africa Agrivoltaics Pilot

NextGen Nano, a UK company, announced plans for a pilot agrivoltaics initiative in West Africa. This project will utilize its PolyPower™ transparent organic solar film technology to combine food and energy production within greenhouse structures. The goal is to enable climate-controlled agriculture, generate renewable electricity in off-grid environments, and address issues like food insecurity, nutritional deficiencies, and limited electricity access. The initiative also aims to support local employment and medical cold-chain infrastructure. If the pilot is successful, NextGen Nano plans to replicate this model globally, targeting the deployment of up to £300 million in projects over the next five years, in partnership with governments, development banks, agricultural groups, and private investors. The World Bank Group's projections for Africa's agribusiness market and the lack of electricity access in Sub-Saharan Africa highlight the significant opportunity for such integrated solutions.
