This initiative could lead to advancements in medical technology and improve public health outcomes, positively impacting the market sentiment for companies involved in AI and healthcare within India.
India has approved the IndiaAI Mission on March 7, 2024, a strategic initiative by the India — Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to democratize technology and establish a self-reliant and globally competitive AI ecosystem. As part of this mission, the IndiaAI-NCG Cancer AI & Technology Challenge (CATCH) was launched in collaboration with the National Cancer Grid. This challenge aims to promote and develop impactful AI solutions for major societal challenges, particularly in healthcare, focusing on the cancer care continuum. Out of 299 proposals received, 10 AI solutions have been selected for grant support, with initial funding up to ₹50 lakh per solution and potential for enhanced support up to ₹1 crore for scale-up. The program emphasizes ethical AI and data protection, requiring Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) clearance for all approved projects. Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada provided this information in Lok Sabha on April 1.
