The repurchase by Intel of the Fab 34 stake from Apollo Global Management is viewed positively for Intel, as it strengthens its balance sheet and is expected to be accretive to EPS, potentially boosting investor confidence in Intel's long-term manufacturing strategy. For Apollo Global Management, the sale represents a profitable exit from a strategic investment, freeing up capital for other ventures.
Intel announced a definitive agreement to repurchase the 49% equity interest in its Fab 34 joint venture in Republic of Ireland from Apollo Global Management for $14.2 billion. This transaction reverses a 2024 deal where Apollo Global Management-managed funds invested $11.2 billion for the stake, providing Intel with capital flexibility. The repurchase will be funded through cash on hand and approximately $6.5 billion in new debt issuance. Intel expects the deal to be accretive to ongoing earnings per share and to strengthen its credit profile from 2027 onwards. Fab 34 is a critical high-volume semiconductor fabrication facility in Republic of Ireland, producing chips using Intel 4 and Intel 3 process technologies, including Intel Core Ultra and Intel Xeon 6 processors. David Zinsner, Intel's CFO, and Jamshid Ehsani, an Apollo Global Management Partner, both commented on the strategic benefits and collaborative nature of the transaction. Goldman Sachs advised Intel, while Morgan Stanley advised the seller's independent board.
