Over the past five years (2021-2025), more than 20 Indian workers have died daily on foreign soil, totaling 37,740 fatalities, with the majority (over 86%) occurring in Gulf nations. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia recorded the highest numbers of deaths. During the same period, Indian missions received over 80,000 complaints of abuse, exploitation, and workplace grievances, with the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, and Saudi Arabia accounting for the highest volumes. Common issues include delayed salaries, passport retention, excessive working hours, and denial of legitimate labor rights. The government of India, through Kirti Vardhan Singh, has stated that it is providing consular assistance, legal aid, and has signed Memorandums of Understanding with host countries to address these concerns.
