The Chronicle upgrade for Bitcoin is expected to positively impact the cryptocurrency market by enhancing the blockchain's stability, scalability, and development environment. This could lead to increased adoption and utility for Bitcoin, potentially influencing its market value and investor confidence.
BSV Association has announced the Chronicle upgrade (SV Node v1.2) for the Bitcoin blockchain, a mandatory network upgrade scheduled to activate at block height 943,816 around April 7, 2026. This upgrade is described as the final step in restoring the Bitcoin protocol to its original Bitcoin design by removing artificial technical constraints. Connor Murray, Head of Stewardship and Standards at BSV Association, emphasized that the upgrade aims to eliminate complexity and provide a stable, unconstrained foundation for developers and enterprises. The Chronicle upgrade will unlock more flexible Bitcoin Script usage, advanced transaction logic, and greater freedom in application design, leading to a leaner development environment with increased stability, reduced reliance on external dependencies, lower development overhead, and greater scalability for enterprise applications. All node operators and exchanges supporting Bitcoin must upgrade to SV Node v1.2 before the activation block to remain in network consensus, with non-upgraded nodes risking falling out of consensus and experiencing disruptions.
