Judge Clears Subramanyam Vedam's Release

A U.S. Immigration Judge, Adam Panopoulos, cleared the way for the potential release of Imprisonment of Subramanyam Vedam, an Indian citizen, after his Pennsylvania murder conviction was overturned after four decades in prison. Imprisonment of Subramanyam Vedam was taken into United States — United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody last year, as the United States — United States Department of Homeland Security sought to deport him to India based on unrelated drug distribution convictions. Judge Adam Panopoulos ruled that Imprisonment of Subramanyam Vedam proved he was genuinely rehabilitated and did not pose a danger to the public. The Centre County District Attorney, Bernie Cantorna, had previously declined to retry Imprisonment of Subramanyam Vedam for murder due to the passage of time. The United States — United States Department of Homeland Security has a month to appeal the judge's decision, while Imprisonment of Subramanyam Vedam's lawyer, Ava Benach, plans to seek his release on bond.
