Nigeria Launches National Community Food Bank

The National Community Food Bank Programme was launched in Abuja by Remi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, to combat hunger and malnutrition, particularly among vulnerable children under six. The event saw over N65 billion in pledges from various public and private sector entities. Key contributors include the Nigeria (N17 billion), Nigeria Governors Forum (N17 billion), Aliko Dangote (N20 billion in-kind), and NNPC Limited (N10 billion). Remi Tinubu personally pledged N500 million. The program, aligned with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, will be implemented in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, and the Agricultural Bank of China. It aims to establish a transparently governed trust fund and a community-based distribution system leveraging primary healthcare networks across all 36 states of Nigeria.
