Mamdani proposes aggressive measures, including pursuing liens and foreclosures to bring distressed properties under city stewardship. However, these efforts are complicated by the legal structures of LLCs and opposition from landlord lobbying groups like the New York Apartment Association, which argues that such policies would reduce maintenance budgets. New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently vetoed legislation aimed at increasing transparency for LLC owners.
