China-Pakistan Middle East Peace Initiative

The African Union Commission, through its Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, has welcomed a joint five-point initiative by China and Pakistan aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East region. The initiative emphasizes an immediate cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians, respect for international humanitarian law, and safeguarding maritime security, including the Strait of Hormuz. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf expressed deep concern over the continued escalation in the region, noting its global impact on energy supply chains, food systems, and economic stability, particularly in Africa. The initiative calls for restraint, urgent de-escalation, sustained engagement, and adherence to international law and the United Nations, stressing that a durable resolution can only be achieved through dialogue and negotiated solutions.
