Jos Unrest Leads to Student Evacuations

Following a deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba and surrounding areas in Jos, Nigeria — Plateau State, the University of Jos postponed examinations and ordered the immediate evacuation of all its students. The violence resulted in the deaths of two University of Jos students, Abel Gershon and Adeyomo Temitope, and injuries to four other students and one staff member. In response, Nigeria — Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia ordered the evacuation of over 600 Nigeria — Benue State indigenous students, while Nigeria — Bauchi State and Nigeria — Kogi State also evacuated their respective indigenous students. Nigeria — Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang's administration provided transport for the evacuation efforts and imposed a 48-hour curfew, which was later eased but followed by renewed violence. President Bola Tinubu was commended for his intervention.
