Assam Election Campaign Allegations

Gaurav Gogoi, president of India — Indian National Congress in India — Assam, and Assam Jatiya Parishad, president of India — Assam Jatiya Parishad, campaigned in Sarupathar, India — Assam, for opposition alliance candidate Jiban Chutia. During their rallies, they sharply criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the India — Bharatiya Janata Party. Gaurav Gogoi alleged that Himanta Biswa Sarma has close links to those responsible for Zubeen Garg's killing and accused the government of running syndicates involving cattle, coal, sand, and stone. He promised justice within 100 days if the alliance comes to power and called for an investigation into Himanta Biswa Sarma's relationship with Shyamkanu Mahanta. Both leaders also condemned Himanta Biswa Sarma's alleged derogatory remarks against candidate Kunal Choudhury and emphasized upholding communal harmony. Assam Jatiya Parishad further criticized the Chief Minister on issues such as the India — Assam-Nagaland border dispute, the Apex Bank scam, and rising prices, urging voters to defeat the India — Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming April 9 elections.
