Accra Reset Forms Global Health Panel

The Accra Reset initiative, championed by John Mahama, has announced the formation of an 18-member high-level panel. This panel is tasked with proposing concrete and actionable reforms to the global health architecture and governance system. Co-chaired by Peter Piot, El Hadj As Sy, Nísia Trindade, and Budi Gunadi Sadikin, the panel aims to advance African health and economic sovereignty by repositioning countries in the Global South as active decision-makers. The panel's work will be supported by a High-Level Consultative Group, which includes major global institutions such as the World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, United States — Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, African Union Development Agency, and the International Finance Corporation. Prominent figures like Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala are part of this consultative group. Michel Sidibé has been appointed Special Advisor and Envoy to the co-chairs. The panel is expected to commence work immediately, with its terms of reference to be refined in collaboration with international platforms like the World_Health_Assembly and the United_Nations_General_Assembly.
