Nigerian Army Debunks Kukah Attack

The Nigeria — Nigerian Army, specifically its 8 Division, and the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto jointly debunked false social media reports alleging an armed attack on the residence of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral in Nigeria — Sokoto State. Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba of the Nigeria — Nigerian Army stated that the reports circulating on Meta Platforms were misleading and unfounded, confirming that Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah was safe and fulfilling his Easter duties without disruption. The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto also issued a statement through Mr Pascal Salifu, its Director of Communications, dismissing the claims and noting that the video accompanying the false report had previously circulated after the murder of Lynching of Deborah Yakubu in May 2022. Both entities emphasized that security measures were in place to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration and urged the public to rely on verified information sources.
