The Nigeria — Senate of Nigeria, through its Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, has launched a significant initiative to reform and revitalise the country's agricultural colleges and research institutions. Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the committee's chairman, has engaged in high-level visits to diplomatic missions in Abuja, including those of Malaysia, the European Union, Brazil, China, Germany, India, and the United Kingdom, as well as representatives from Paraguay. These engagements are aimed at fostering strategic alliances to facilitate technology transfer, attract fresh investments, and promote research collaboration, mechanisation, and modern farming techniques in Nigeria. The initiative is also in preparation for the First National Legislative Summit and Expo on Agricultural Colleges and Research Institutions, scheduled for May 11-13, 2026, at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Ibadan, Oyo State. The summit seeks to mobilise global support, strengthen institutional frameworks, and showcase innovations to accelerate Nigeria's agricultural transformation, ultimately boosting productivity, creating jobs, reducing poverty, and enhancing rural development.
