Wike Threatens Seun Okinbaloye

Seun Okinbaloye, a journalist with Channels TV, received threats from Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, following comments Okinbaloye made about the dangers of a one-party system in Nigeria's democracy. Wike reportedly stated he would have 'shot' Okinbaloye. Although Wike later clarified his remarks were not intended as a physical threat, the incident sparked widespread condemnation from human rights and media organizations, including Amnesty International, Nigerian Guild of Editors, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, and Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria. These groups have called for President Bola Tinubu to investigate the threats and protect journalists, with IBAN threatening a media boycott of Wike's engagements.
