Artemis II Lunar Flyby Breaks Record

The Artemis II mission, led by United States — NASA, successfully completed its first lunar flyby in over half a century, with astronauts Christina Koch, Jeremy Hansen, Victor Glover, and Reid Wiseman on board. The crew broke the human distance record from Earth, previously held by Apollo 13, by traveling 406,778 kilometers. During their six-hour observation period, astronauts provided detailed human perspectives on the Moon's surface, including the 'terminator' and lunar craters. Christina Koch became the first woman, Victor Glover the first person of color, and Jeremy Hansen the first non-American to fly around the Moon. The crew also proposed naming two previously unnamed craters, 'Integrity' and 'Carroll', with the latter honoring Reid Wiseman's late wife. United States — NASA will formally submit these proposals to the International Astronomical Union.
