SDHI Secures India's First Ammonia Dual-Fuel Carrier Order

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has secured a Category 4 order from HC-One for the construction of four 92,500 DWT dual-fuel ammonia bulk carriers. This marks a significant milestone as these will be the first ammonia dual-fuel ships built in India and among the largest commercial vessels ever constructed at an Indian shipyard. The vessels, measuring 229.5m in length, will be equipped with ammonia-fuelled propulsion systems designed by KMS-EMEC, South Korea, and classed by DNV. The first vessel is expected to be delivered in October 2029, with subsequent deliveries at four-month intervals. HC-One is a General Partner for New Energy One, an investment fund committed to investing USD 2 billion in zero-emission ships. This development underscores India's growing capability in complex, next-generation shipbuilding programs aligned with the global transition toward lower-emission shipping.
